American Odyssey Relay Run Adventure

Each team within 50 miles of the relay is required to supply AT LEAST 3 volunteers for the relay. Many other teams supply volunteers as they have really nice family members and friends. We also have special charity volunteers. Welcome to the wild and wonderful world of American Odyssey Relay volunteering! This is Kelly Cameron, Director of Logistics, Volunteers and FUN! Now, let's get to the details...

Volunteering is easy. An average shift is about 4-5 hours long and yes, you can request a location if it's not already taken. Volunteering requires that you either direct traffic (telling runners and/or vans where to go) AND/OR keep track of when a relay runner passes thru your area by noting the time on a master list AND/OR cheering runners on (maybe even dressing up for a costume award - see website photos and awards) AND/OR picking up trash and removing signage after the last team passes through. Easy! You will always have others around you, especially for those late night times.

About that.........this is a race that runs around the clock. Therefore, we need volunteers around the clock. Yep, that means we need volunteers at midnight, 2am, 4am, 6am.....you get the picture. Some people prefer to work those time slots as it's the most concentrated time of the race, when the most runners and teams pass thru a transition area, making it even more exciting. Or maybe it's that those volunteers are younger and can stay up longer. Or those volunteers just wanna do something wild and crazy and fun. Yes, you can be one of those!

You will receive a confirmation once you sign up and if you need to make any changes later on, send us an email. You will also receive informational emails between now and the race via Constant Contact. Make sure to come back to the AOR website and this page as we will list all volunteer communications here. Thanks again and see you soon!

GO AOR! GO VOLUNTEERS! GO PERFECT WEATHER!
